The Adaptable Design System

The Adaptable Design System formed the core of my Visual Communication Honours degree, completed through both a written thesis and a practical design component. The project explores how ontological design can be used to develop a potential Adaptive Branding System that resists the cycle of trend-driven rebranding. Rooted in the idea that design both shapes, and is shaped by its users, the system promotes cyclical adaptability to help brands remain relevant within shifting social and cultural contexts.

This project aims to challenge the saturation of similar, short-lived brand aesthetics, the project proposes a potential future-proof branding framework that enables continuous evolution without the need for full rebrands. The system is tested through two case studies: the existing retail brand Tekkie Town, and a fully developed fictional brand, Morph Burger. Together, they demonstrate how adaptability can be embedded into brand identity to maintain long-term relevance, authenticity, and user engagement.
